I’ve heard that the waters and land that make up Puget Sound are contaminated with pollutants (both old and new) — are you concerned about YOUR health? —Not-Too-Muddy in Mt. Vernon
Hello Not-Too-Muddy,
That's a great question! It's true that Puget Sound is extremely polluted — this is one of the reasons why I left my native habitat. It's a pretty sad state of affairs — did you know that 1 billion gallons of tainted wastewater are dumped onto the Sound every day, and that over 5,700 acres of Puget Sound sediments are highly contaminated? I love the human species just as much as I love salmon and orcas and eelgrass, but I do wish that more people behaved in an environmentally responsible way. Fortunately, MudUp is here to help, and I'm thrilled to see that the newly-formed Puget Sound Leadership Counsel is hard at work devising a plan to address the issue of pollution. Meanwhile, I do watch out for my health the best I can — I eat lots of local organic fruits and veggies, I get plenty of exercise and fresh air, and I always keep a positive attitude, no matter what challenges I face. I'm confident that with MudUp in place, and with lots of changes going on that will help to control and clean up toxics, my beloved Sound will eventually be restored to full health.
