Having Fun Removing Ivy at Picnic Point
An event summary from June 21, 2008- volunteers had a very successful and fun-filled outing pulling ivy at Picnic Point.
Picnic Point Work Party A Great Success!
We had another beautiful day at Picnic Point Park in Edmonds removing ivy with
20 hardy volunteers on June 21, 2008.
We always seem to get the really hard-core folks at
Picnic Point- you know who I’m talking about...the ones you have to go on safari
at the end of the day to extract them from the depths of the forest and pry
their fingers off the loppers and shovels. We got way more ivy removed than
expected- 18 jumbo sized garbage bags and a full size tarp full! Way to go
volunteers!
We had a lot of curious people on the beach wondering what we were
doing, and had a great opportunity to connect with them- we got eight people
signed up for the next Jetty Island work party right there on the beach!
Today
was also a beach EXPO at the park with our friends the WSU Beach Watchers,
Snohomish Marine Resources Committee, the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Task Force
and the Waterkeeper Alliance.
It was a well rounded day with all the beach
naturalists beachcombing with people and the MRC touch tank letting us get up
close and personal with our Puget Sound critters. Throw in some habitat
restoration and that’s a well-rounded day on Puget Sound!
