I'm Ron Schuster and I've lived in Seattle over 50 years. I don't have one favorite place, each part of the Sound is too unique to quantify. The San Juan Islands are great, our estuaries hold hope, and our bays and wetlands are majestic. Just being able to share the beauty with those who've never seen it is enough to make me happy. The picture I paint for folks is a place with more fish, no septic tank pollution, a place for future generations to enjoy. What makes me unhappy is when it gets fouled. I maintain clean waters to the drains and never dump anything into the Sound. I take this seriously. I have had a polluting industry written up in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, fined, arrested and for a short time jailed for dumping into the Duwamish River. I'd like to see schools from kindergarten to grad school do something like adopting a stream or a creek. I'd like to see students monitor the health of the waters entering the Sound, do fish counts, plant fish and make sure we have clean river banks and water flowing. Call them 'Sound Mentors and Guardians'.
